Yesterday I went for a brisk run through the island and up 4th north. Yes. UP 4th NORTH. From the bottom to the top, and it was unbelievably challenging. But I did it, even if I was gasping for air by the end. I probably did 8 min miles, which is pretty fast considering I am slow.

On a sidenote: Sideaches apparently can be alleviated by:
1) Breathing more through your stomach
2) Exhaling on your left foot (70% of people exhale with the right foot) This helps because there is not as much stretching on the diaphragm on the left side as the right- the organs that your right side holds are heavier.
3) Expirimenting with liquids/solids consumed before a run.

I'm SO BACK!

After about a month of no running.

I need to get back.

set my ipod for 14 miles-- a very unrealistic goal.

I ran/walk a total of 4 miles.

almost an hour.

my mom was there walking in the park too so i didn't want to take 4 hours to finish my slow recovery from not running.

either case, injuries avoided and feel good that even with this slow run I will finish in 6 hours. -

I am set to finish a marathon!

well

I've done 3 runs since the last post, and all were nothing worthy of marathon training. All consisted probably of about 3-4 miles, and I am having a hard time staying motivated to run long distances. But there is hope, if I continue to run maybe it'll get easier. Also, I might split them up- do some in the morning, some after work at night. We will see?

Parlez-vous francais?

Wow. I have found my distraction in running. I set off for 5 miles today (I know, my schedule is all messed up, I'm just trying to go with the flow...) As I commenced, I turned my ipod to "Speak French, with Michel Thomas", my new french-learning tutorial on cd. I went through 1 1/2 disks, and was completely able to finish my run with no probleme.

C'est Magnificent! Exceptionale!

..Encore in 2 days.

June 11

Still running a bit behind (har har.. joke.. "running")

Went for a seven mile run today that was supposed to be on july 9th. I did fairly well, I ran in South Jordan from 9800 South to 7800 South, then back again. It was a pretty good run and I wasn't too tired. But those dang sideaches! I have no idea why I get them or how to get rid of them. By mile 6 I was in a lot of pain and had to continually walk/run the last mile. Those sideaches drive me nuts. Hips are better though, and though my pace is still pretty slow, I can keep going for a long time now. Man alive, I never thought I'd be running 7 miles in one sitting.

Wednesday, July 8, 2009

I am always reminded of why I don't run in the sun. Sometimes I'll never get around to running because I convince myself that I'll do it when the sun goes down.

That usually doesn't happen.

So today I took off for a 5 miler at around 5:30. All was going well until the halfway point, where I suddenly felt my left hip get a bit funny. It was pretty sore, so I stopped and took a little rest on a grass hill in the shade. Man alive, I was so hot! It was hard to finish the run, but I did and tried to strech my hip really good. We'll see come tomorrow just how bad of shape it's in...

Monday, July 6, 2009

well..

It's come Tuesday now, and I haven't done my 6-8 run for sunday yet...

I might be putting myself in serious trouble for this marathon.

first 5K race (well, kinda)

I wish I had entered a 5K today. The training plan calls for a race because it helps you achieve your higher speed better and also satisfying.

I didn't get in a race, except with myself.

Set that iPod for 5K and on I went

I was averaging about 5 minutes per kilometer on the first 2 km but I made it a goal to make it under 5 on my average

turned out to be 4:52 at the end. still very satisfying but no medal. (oh well)

that was about 7:12 minute per mile, my fastest average yet.

Running in Thailand

This is officially Week 5 of training.

I've just finished my 4 Mile run. with 3x2:00 Aerobic Interval

I've never really ran in Thailand before. Well, I take that back, my parents used to take us on a local park about a mile away on a run around it. People run around this park a lot and you can see a lot of 80+ year olds guys running everyday (which is a good motivation)

It was interesting. HOT. I can feel my ear's heat on the last mile or so.

Stretching at the beginning and it feels like my muscle is already warmed up.

And cooling down doesn't feel that great. It felt hot, like i should keep going.

Can't wait to go 10-15 miles in the next week or so..

Current Weather: Storming.

Ouch.

Embarked on my first 9 mile run today. I had a lot to catch up with, being a few runs behind schedule. (Actually, a few weeks behind now hahahaha) Was good the first few, I had a pretty quick pace and was feelin good! At around mile four or five, I stopped and took a walking break. I was in disbelief that I was only halfway done! It was really hard to keep pushing. But I did it! For the most part. Took a few walking breaks and stretching breaks. Made it back home at snail's pace, knees throbbing, and thirsty as a horse.

Interesting things include seeing a mice run across the trail. I also accidentally ran into a "no trespassing" zone, where I witnessed a beaver run out of a bush in front of me- into a doghouse. I don't know if it was a pet...? Oh, and I saw a cute little dandelion seed being blown effortlessly in the wind. It was a beautiful evening for a run but a very draining experience. The only thing that kept me going was thinking about the fact that if I couldn't even finish 9 miles, there is no way I could do 26. Whew!

Running in grafton is a lot more exciting than logan. My cousin ben came along, which was really neat. He usually sits alone at gatherings and doesn't say much, so you can imagine my surprise when he started asking me questions and talking to me continuously. It was great! We went over a dirt and gravel road, right at dusk. With the rocks and the view, it was pretty amazing! probably only four miles total, but what can you do on vacation. Haha! cort

It's almost a cardio exercise when you walk around the shopping outlets with my mother. Should have brought my nike to see what my distance would be

Solo?

I went on a 6 mile run today. Solo for the first time, it looks like i'll be doing this a lot while I'm in Thailand.

Started running with my new Nike iPOd thing.

ran 6 miles in an hour. about a 10.16 pace

this week has two rest days— till sunday with 8 miles!

Yeah... right.

Today Pete and I were supposed to run 4 miles, but we didn't quite make it. He had to do extensive flight testing and I had a catering job. I didn't mind too much, but I still feel a bit lazy. Although I think that 7 hours on of constantly on your feet makes up for it a bit. I might have had a bit too much pink lemonade and chocolate cake, but while you're on the job, you have to stuff food in your mouth whenever you have a free moment. Sometimes you don't even get that moment, and when you're working through lunch and dinner, it's beneficial to eat whenever you can. Even if it is off of someone's cleared plate. (Psyche! Just kidding!)

7 Miles

This training is good I think because it starts to train me to be on my feet running for a long period of time.

It's good to just be quiet for awhile too and just not think of anything except looking at the scenery.

7 Miles wasn't too bad today due to tons of stretching yesterday and today.

on another note, we saw a duck couple today sleeping on the sidewalk..

Day #6

Yesterday we rested, thank goodness.

Today we're supposed to be distance training. 4 miles today.

it was about to be raining and we decided that it would be totally fine.

about a mile in, it started sprinkling. we kept running.

By mile # 3 it was pouring down and we decided to rest under the trees a bit. I was really cold and was not looking to go out running for another 15 minutes.

So we hitchhiked it.

got 2 blocks away from home then we made it home.

wet and tired,

Pete

So sore this morning.

Thursday, June 11, 2009

Our first run.

We started our marathon training today. Looking to do the Top of Utah Marathon in Logan during September of 2009, Cortni and I grabbed a marathon plan from RunnersWorld.com

Realizing we procrastinated a bit, we had to start on Week 2.

We went out on a 1 hour run today. Got about 4 miles in and I have never even ran an hour straight in my life before and it was a bit scary.

It didn't feel too bad during, but I'm sure I'll feel it tomorrow.

Pete.
